Contact information for all board members, commissioners, and managers can be found on our website
Contacts Page.
Capital Fundraising Effort
A capital fundraising effort in 2007 was spearheaded by Bill Fischer of Axis
Specialty Ltd. in the hopes of raising money for the BYSP to take on some
improvement projects. We would like to extend a special thank you to Bill for
his time and effort in this endeavor, as well as the following companies who so
generously contributed to our fund:
TokioMillennium,
Ariel Reinsurance,
Allied World Assurance Company,
Nephila Capital Limited,
Ernst & Young,
Partner Reinsurance
and the McKeown family.
Several capital projects are currently being considered by the Board.
Administration
The BYSP has several volunteer administrative tasks that require no special sports skills or knowledge. Such duties include helping with signups at the desk (3 times / year), managing our database, providing content to the media for special events, or assisting Board members with their assignments. Please consider volunteering some of your time and talent to help keep the program running smoothly for your children. Contact me or any other Board member if you can assist.
Award
The BYSP has awarded a Best of Bermuda Gold prize as the best junior sports program on the island. This is a first for our organization and well-deserved recognition of the hard work and dedication all the parent volunteers put into the program.
Soccer
Prize giving and photos to be distributed on the last game of
the season by the coaches for each team. This will occur after the last match -
December 15th, 2007.
Special thank you to
Derek Stapley, manager for the 5-6 boys
Hector Suazo, manager for the 7-9 boys
Shannon Furbert, manager for the 10+ boys
William Fischer and Jamie Sapsford for the girls divisions
Roy Burke for stepping in as photographer
Susan Simmons for coordinating on the soccer pitches and dealing with
the schools.
Basketball
Signups are scheduled for Sat., Dec. 1st and Dec. 8th, from 9-12 in the BHS gym.
The cost is $65, with $55 for each sibling. The fee includes a team picture.
Please bring appropriate footwear for a short evaluation. The season will start
on Jan 12th and finish Mar. 15th. More details are available on our website, in
the Royal Gazette ads, or contact basketball commissioner Greg Hendrick at Greg.Hendrick@xlgroup.com.
Basketball Managers urgently needed!
Volunteers are urgently needed to manage the following basketball leagues:
Mixed - ages 5-6
Boys - ages 7-9
Boys - ages 13-16
Girls - ages 7-10
Girls - ages 11-13
Managers tasks include helping with signups (Dec. 1 & Dec. 8), recruiting
coaches, organizing teams, setting game and practice schedules, and ensuring the
league runs smoothly throughout the season. Contact Greg Hendrick at Greg.Hendrick@xlgroup.com
if you can assist or have questions. Any league without a manager will have to
be cancelled.*
Basketball signup volunteers
We need a couple of parent volunteers to work the basketball signup desk on Dec.
1st and/or Dec. 8th from 9-12 at the BHS gym. This requires no knowledge of
basketball. Please reply to this email to volunteer. We cannot conduct signups
if there are not enough volunteers to run it.
Sponsors
The BYSP is a registered Bermuda charity that is run by a group of parents whose
goal is to involve boys and girls aged 5 to 16 years in team sports. Our sports
program includes soccer, basketball and baseball. We emphasize the development
of positive attitudes and self esteem through participation rather than
competition.
For this program to be successful financial support is needed in the form of
team sponsorships and court-time sponsors. Team sponsors help cover the costs of
the uniforms and participation trophies for each player, whereas court-time
sponsors help us cover the cost of the gymnasium rental fees for games and
practice. It is the goal of the BYSP to keep the fee for the players as minimal
as possible so that it is not prohibitive for any child who wishes to play.
Without support from sponsor companies, we will not be able to attain our goal.
The fee to sponsor one basketball team is $500, or $1300 to sponsor three teams.
In return for the sponsorship fee, your company’s name will be put on the back
of the team jersey. If you are interested in sponsoring court time, in return
for a sponsorship donation of $2,000, a banner will be put up at the basketball
games indicating your company’s support of our organization. Please contact
Collen Dougherty at cmdougherty@logic.bm to sponsor our program or if you have
any questions.
Regards, Regards,
BYSP Board
